Mixte is a style of bicycle. The top tube on a modern bicycle is traditionally a single tube that makes up the top of a bicycle's frame. However the mixte frame has a split top tube (2 smaller tubes) that run the length of the frame from the head tube/steerer to the rear dropouts/real wheel hubs. The tubes are slanted down more dramatically to accommodate for women riders wearing dresses (think early 1900s).

In some cultures the mixte is seen as more as a ladies bike, its origins in France in the early 20th century – and its name – came from the desire for a mixed gender bicycle, equally appealing and comfortable to men and women.

This screen print started as an illustration for a cover of Vita.mn, a Twin Cities music and culture free newspaper celebrating the cycling season in Minneapolis and getting back to riding in the Spring.
